Christian Family Care – TEN:24

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds"Hebrews 10:24

How full is your Salt Shaker? From Mark

J.P. Moreland in his book Love Your God with All Your Mind says this

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to recognize that our entire culture is in trouble…. Our society has replaced heroes with celebrities, the quest for a well-informed character with the search for a flat stomach, substance and depth with image and personality.” He goes on to say that “the major cause of our current cultural crisis consists of a worldview shift from a Judeo-Christian understanding of reality to a post-Christian one. Moreover, this shift itself expresses a growing anti-intellectualism in the church resulting in the marginalization of Christianity in society – its lack of saltiness, if you will – and the emergence of the most secular culture the world has ever seen.”

Jesus was concerned about His community of followers when he said,

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?” Matthew 5:13

What are you reading and giving serious thought about that is helping you keep your saltiness?

J. P. Moreland goes on to say, “Because of the mindlessness of our culture, people do not persuade others of their views (religious or otherwise) on the basis of argument and reason, but rather, by expressing emotional rhetoric and politically correct buzzwords.”

1 Peter 3:15 commands us to be ready to give a reasoned defense to someone who asks us for a credible reason why we believe what we do. Jude 1:3 admonish us to “contend earnestly” for the faith.

Think about it. In your role at Christian Family Care do you feel adequately equipped to give a reasonable defense and spread some salt into the lives of the people at DCS and the community that you interact with? How full is your salt shaker?
