Good morning team,
As we approach what would normally be “back to school” time, I understand routines and plans have morphed for the parents of school-aged children on our staff. Schools across the state are taking varied forms of welcoming students “back” to the classroom from delayed starts, distance learning, or a combination of various approaches. I have only heard from a few staff members with questions regarding this, and so I wanted to send an email out to remind everyone of options for our CFC parents.
- Telecommute/flexibility: Since schools have been closed since March, I think many of you have found a routine with what seems to be working to balance your work responsibilities and helping your children thrive as best as possible. Remember, your ability to work remotely is still a discussion between you and your supervisor and contingent on your ability to accomplish your essential duties effectively.
- Paid time off: If there are consistent times during your work day when you need to unplug from work to assist your children with distance learning or provide childcare due to a school/daycare closure, you are able to use your accrued time off, including sick. Under Arizona Sick Time Law, sick time can be used during a public health emergency when there are school/daycare closures. As with all work schedule changes, you should consult with your direct supervisor.
- Emergency FMLA: Under the FFCRA (Families First Coronavirus Response Act), there is an expansion of leave policies for the closure of schools and/or daycare centers which affect your childcare routines. This expansion for FMLA is 2/3 pay for up to 12 weeks (through the end of this year). This option is only available in the event of a school or daycare closure, however, because the Department of Labor requires documentation from the school/center.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have questions about any of the information above!
Have a wonderful weekend!
